In late March, Kam and Wai Lee, owners of Golden City Chinese Restaurant in Colmar, recently announced that after 39 years, they had sold the restaurant to Peter Chang, a noted chef and restaurateur in Virginia and Maryland.
Chang is known for his authentic Szechuan dishes. The James Beard Foundation has recognized him four times as a nominee and semifinalist in the Best Chef and Outstanding Chef categories.
Chang has a very interesting story that starts in China and continues at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., which he and his family eventually left and sought to build a life in the United States. You can read an interview with Chang in which he shares his story here.
Golden City Chinese Restaurant closed on March 29th. Chang’s restaurant in Colmar is projected to open in August. You can explore the menu of Chang’s restaurant in Richmond, VA, here.
