Veteran-owned coffee shop, .308 Coffee Co., has opened in Bridgeport and is serving up breakfast, iced coffee and hot drinks. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can purchase a latte, freshly baked muffin or blend of specialty roasted coffee beans.
Founded by Tom Helenski, former urban sniper for the U.S. Marines, the cafe maintains a mindset of military precision when creating its blends. The idea of a coffee shop came to Helenski while on early morning hunting trips when he needed something not just to wake him up but sharpen his edge. According to the shop’s website (Home | 308 Coffee Co), every roast “is designed with the same care that goes into a clean trigger pull.”
.308 partners with U.S. roasters to source their coffee beans, but hopes to soon roast their own coffee in-house. The shop sells both whole bean and ground coffee, with offerings like Cinnamon Hazelnut, Firewatch Fuel, and a simple Zero Dark Roast. Customers can purchase a bag in person or order one online through the web page here: Collections – .308 Coffee Co.
In line with the business’ military theme, each purchase made helps benefit three nonprofits for veterans. .308 Coffee Co. partners with organizations 98 Octane, Camp Freedom and the Honor and Courage Foundation to help veterans transition to civilian life.
To try a cup or bite into a breakfast sandwich, customers can visit the location at 1 W. 4th St.
