Water Tower Cinema property in Montgomeryville listed for sale as redevelopment opportunity

The Water Tower Cinema property at 750 Montgomery Glen Drive in Montgomeryville (some places show as Lansdale) has been listed for sale. The property is being marketed as a six-acre redevelopment site that “offers a unique opportunity to transform a strategically located retail space to fit a variety of uses.” The sale does not impact the adjoining shopping center.

The cinema is still actively showing movies, and there has been no announcement regarding closure.

In an entry on CinemaTreasures.org, Tim Quan shared that the Eric Theaters opened the movie house in 1968 as a single screen named the Eric Montgomeryville. A second screen was added in 1974, and a third two years later. In 1989, the theater added four more screens and was rebranded Eric 7 Montgomeryville.

The theater was sold in 1989 to United Artists, which became Regal, and was sold again to Frank Theaters in 2006. Frank Theaters operated the theater until 2019, when it closed after the company filed for bankruptcy. It was reopened later in 2019 as the Water Tower Cinema with auditoriums ranging from 80 to 300-seats. It is currently owned by an entity tied to The Goldenberg Group in Blue Bell.

The price being sought is not included in the marketing brochure.
